Dr Rinku Rayoo is an Australian-trained Consultant Cardiologist with over 20 years of experience across Australia, the United Kingdom, and India. He provides comprehensive, evidence-based care with a focus on general cardiology, heart failure, preventive cardiology, and advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging.

He completed Advanced Training in Cardiology at Northern Health and a dedicated Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Austin Health, developing expertise in echocardiography, stress echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI. He has previously served as a Heart Failure and Cardiac Imaging Consultant at Bendigo Health.

Dr Rayoo currently holds positions as a Cardiac Imaging Specialist at The Northern Hospital and consults in private practice across Melbourne. He holds ANZ Level B Certification in Cardiac CT and is a Fellow of both the RACP and the CSANZ.

Dr Rayoo enjoys both indoor and outdoor cycling and has completed the Great Ocean Road and Otway 145 km ride and Around the Bay (Melbourne) ride multiple times.

Interventional Cardiologist

Chris is a cardiologist who has trained in all aspects of cardiology with a sub-specialist in Interventional cardiology. He completed his training in Melbourne, Australia and furthermore completed a three-year post-graduate fellowship in Oxford, UK. He also specialises in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Chris has written many international publications and is completing his research doctorate. He has introduced the use of the latest techniques including Radial Artery Access angiography and stenting, intracoronary imaging with OCT and IVUS as well the Pressure Wire (FFR) technique to assess the individual coronary stenosis for ischaemia. These techniques have been deemed as revolutionary in the cardiac interventional diagnosis scheme.

• Pioneer of Radial Artery Access procedures for angiograms and PCI in Victoria (helped introduce this technique to Epworth Eastern, using the artery in the wrist compared to the groin. Much lower risk of vascular complications, and much improved patient comfort compared to femoral artery access).
• Pioneer of Drug Eluting Balloon Angioplasty (Performed the first drug eluting balloon angioplasty in an Epworth Hospital in Melbourne)
• Pioneer of the Pressure Wire (FFR/Fractional Flow Reserve) to distinguish stenoses that need PCI and those that can be safely managed conservatively. (Performed the first pressure wire procedure in Epworth Eastern)
• Emergency PCI for treatment of acute myocardial infarction

Associate Professor Han Lim

MBBS, PhD, FRACP, FCSANZ, FHRS

Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist

Han obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Melbourne and completed his Cardiology training at the Austin Hospital, before undertaking subspecialty training in the area of cardiac electrophysiology and device implantations.

He is a recipient of the NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council) Medical Postgraduate Scholarship for his PhD in the area of stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF). Han is the first Australian cardiologist to be awarded the Parmley Prize from the American College of Cardiology in 2012.

He is also a Finalist in the American Heart Association Samuel Levine Young Investigator Award in 2014 and a recipient of the NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Early Career Fellowship.

For his overseas advanced cardiac electrophysiology fellowship, Han trained with Professor Michel Haissaguerre in Bordeaux, France, who pioneered the technique of catheter ablation for AF. Han has extensive experience in the area of catheter ablation for complex arrhythmias, including the latest ablation techniques for AF, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia, as well as pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantations.

He has authored and co-authored 6 book chapters and >100 peer-reviewed journal publications in the area of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiology in major international cardiology journals such as the Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Circulation, Journal of American Heart Association, Europace and Heart Rhythm. He is a regular presenter at national and international Cardiology conferences.

Han holds public appointments at Austin Hospital and Northern Hospital. He leads the research program at Austin Health in the field of cardiac electrophysiology, and is responsible for supervising and training electrophysiology fellows at Austin Health. Han currently serves as the Australian representative for the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society.

He is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. His research interests are in the area of heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation and stroke, and sudden cardiac death.
